Guide
Know before you go
Talamanca
Our base · Protected bay north of Ibiza Town
The Bay
Where we're staying
- A 900m crescent of pale sand, sheltered from the open sea — water stays flat and glassy, reaching ~22°C in late June
- Faces west across the harbour — the Dalt Vila fortress lights up gold at sunset (21:25)
- Far quieter than San Antonio or Bossa; mostly local families and hotel guests, not party crowds
- The name is Arabic for "the lookout" — a trace of the island's Moorish history before the Reconquista
Getting Around
Distances & taxis
- Old Town (Dalt Vila): 10-min taxi (~€10–15) or water taxi from Marina Botafoc
- Marina Botafoc — the Balearics' most exclusive marina — is a 10-min walk north along the seafront
- Playa d'en Bossa & Hï Ibiza: 20-min taxi (~€15–20)
- Pikes Hotel (San Antonio): 25–30 min (~€25–30) · Airport: 15–20 min (~€15–20)
- Taxi rank is directly outside Argos hotel
Eat & Drink
Around the bay
- Jockey Club — beachfront bar with sunbeds, DJ sets and long sundowners right on the sand
- Restaurante Talamanca — fresh fish and arròs a banda (seafood rice) with harbour views
- Boat Bar — the floating bar moored off the beach; drinks served by paddleboard
- Water taxi runs from the beach to Ibiza Town marina every 30 minutes during the day
Dalt Vila
Old Town · UNESCO World Heritage Site
The Fortress
A city inside walls
- UNESCO World Heritage since 1999 — one of the best-preserved Renaissance fortifications in the Mediterranean
- Built by Philip II in the 1580s to defend against Ottoman raids; the walls reach 22m thick in places
- Seven bastions ring the hilltop; the city has been continuously inhabited for over 2,600 years
- "Dalt Vila" is Catalan for "Upper Town" — locals always use this name, never "Old Town"
What to See
Inside the walls
- Enter through Portal de ses Taules — the main gate, flanked by two ancient Roman statues
- Cathedral of Our Lady of the Snows: Gothic foundations, 16th-century bell tower, panoramic rooftop terrace
- Walk the full circuit of the battlements — views cover the entire south of the island on a clear day
- Museu Puget: fine art in a historic townhouse; free on weekends
Bars & Food
Eating & drinking
- Sa Penya district just below the walls — cobbled lanes packed with terrace bars and late-night clubs
- Croissant Show: the legendary 24-hour bakery at the base of the walls, open since 1983
- Calle de la Virgen: the main bar strip — outdoor tables, cocktails, serious people-watching
- Time it for sunset — the view from the top battlements is one of the finest in the Mediterranean

The Vineyard
Can Rich de Buscastell · Monday 29 June, 12:30
About Can Rich
Ibiza's finest winery
- Can Rich de Buscastell — the island's most celebrated winery, run by the Marí Mayans family for generations
- Located in the valley of Buscastell, west Ibiza — about 30 min from Talamanca through pine hills
- 45 acres of certified-organic vines at 200–350m altitude; sea breezes shape the character of the fruit
- Wine culture on Ibiza predates the Romans — the Phoenicians brought viticulture here around 600 BC
The Wines
What to expect in the glass
- Reds: Monastrell, Tempranillo & Cabernet Sauvignon — concentrated, spiced, with soft tannins
- Whites: Malvasía & Moscatel — aromatic, slightly off-dry, and served very cold
- Their rosé is the star bottle — full-bodied, salmon-pink Monastrell, widely exported
- On-site vermut (vermouth) is made here and is the Ibizan aperitivo of choice — worth trying
The Visit
Monday, 12:30
- Typically 4–6 wines paired with local charcuterie, cheeses and toasted almonds
- Tours of the bodega and vine rows usually included before the tasting begins
- The shop sells bottles to take home — typically €12–25 each; bring cash
- A shaded, relaxed afternoon — a good pace after the previous night at Pikes
